This is the classic felt circle garland with a twist, or more accurately, a fold. I made this one from Kool-aid dyed blanket wool that was partially felted on the stove top during the dying process. For the curious: green is lemon-lime flavor and the dark pink is a mixture of black cherry, Hawaiian punch and orange.
How-to:
Make a circle template on cereal box card by tracing around a small drinking glass and cutting it out. Use the circle template to cut out felt circles in two colors.
Match the circles into pairs (use two different colors) and hand stitch together in the the center.
This photo shows how the circles should be positioned while being sewn together.
Make sure when beginning to sew the garland, you have at least 6" of thread hanging out of the needle and bobbin. Feed the sets of circles continuously through the sewing machine. If you want gaps between your sets of circles, allow the machine to sew a few inches (it won't be sewing anything, just running out thread) before feeding in the next set.
i just love kool-aid dyeing.
