Refashion Tutorial: Make a Tunic Blouse From a Small Round Table Cloth

You will need a small round table cloth. The one used to make this blouse was 46" (117cm) across.

Fold the table cloth in half. Match any repeating patterns, embroidery or decorative motifs.

  Fold again so that the table cloth is now folded into quarters.

Cut a slit through all four layers as shown: 9" (23cm) down from the top and 12" (31cm) over. This will give a good fit for those wearing small to medium sizes. Large and X-large sizes will need to adjust the measurements. Instead of 9" down, try 10-12" down and instead of 12" over, try 14-16" over. This will give you more room in the bodice and less "wing" on the sleeve.

 Cut a slit at the top for the boat neck. Measure over 6" (15cm) over from the center as shown in the drawing. This should give you a slit 12" (30cm) long through the center of the circle.

At this point, you may unfold your circle. It should look something like this. Zig-zag all raw edges.

Right sides together, sew up the seams of the bodice and the sleeves. When you get to the underarm area make sure to make seams transition at sharp right angles. If you try to curve the seam, you will have bunching under the arms. Press open seams.

Turn right side out. Turn the neckline opening under and roll the edge (or use a seam binding/hem tape) and hem to form a self-facing.
