Seashell collecting from the beach may indeed be illegal in some places.
ReplyDeleteIn North America, with the exception of a few small speacially protected fragile beaches, collecting uninhabited shells or other non-living objects from beaches is perfectly legal and is regarded by most people as a ecologically harmless hobby.
The thing to avoid, from a environmental standpoint, is buying commercially harvested shells. These shells are almost always still alive when they are taken and are very often harvested in a way that is disruptive to the beach ecosystem.
